Aqualia recognized as one of the best water management companies in the world in 2017

Aqualia has been chosen as one of the best water management companies in the world at the Global Water Awards gala, held in Paris as part of the Global Water Summit, the sector’s leading annual event. The “Distinction Award” recognizes the Aqualia team’s excellent performance in 2017. The award was collected by José Enrique Bofill, Aqualia's Area Manager in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, who shared the award with the Aqualia office in Paris and, in general, with the company's entire team.

The award is given by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), a top publication in the worldwide water management sector, as recognition of the work of Aqualia, which has been trusted by the Public Administrations of different countries in the with large contracts such as design, construction, operation and maintenance of the treatment plants in Abu Rawash (Egypt) and Arraiján (Panama), and the Guaymas desalination plant (Mexico); the modernization and expansion of the Glina water treatment plant (Romania); the management, together with the local public company, Majis, of all water-related services in the port area of Sohar (Oman); and the maintenance, conservation and exploitation of the treatment plant in Burgos (Spain), amongst others. During the past year, Aqualia has also renewed 95% of its national concessions, as well as the important operation and maintenance contract for the Hadda & Arana wastewater treatment plants in Saudi Arabia.

The award also highlights the economic results achieved by the company in 2017, a financial year that ended with record figures and the achievement of significant corporate bonds issuance transactions worth 1,350 million euros and a 49% repurchase of the company Czech SmVaK. On the other hand, in the field of social and environmental management, in 2017 the company undertook different awareness actions against gender violence and in favour of equality and the occupational integration of people with disabilities. In addition, and linked to the company’s everyday activity, Aqualia has launched several initiatives to raise awareness about the responsible use of water and care of our environment.

GWI has recognized the value of Aqualia's performance on several occasions. In 2007, the publication recognized Aqualia’s development and international trajectory with the distinction of "Global Company of the Year", a prize that this year has gone to the US company, Evoqua. At the 2010 GWI awards, Aqualia took the "Water Deal of the Year" prize for the New Cairo treatment plant project (Egypt), a recognition repeated at the 2012 Global Water Awards for the El Realito (Mexico) supply project.

Aqualia has seen how its 2017 performance has been recognized as excellent by the entire sector. Last December, the iAgua awards recognized Aqualia as the best company of the year in Spain and Latin America and they also gave the company five other awards for different projects and initiatives.

The awards are part of the Global Water Summit, a conference that brings together leading companies, authorities from different countries, institutions and high-level people who are leaders in the water sector.

The participation of Aqualia has been outstanding: in addition to achieving one of the main awards, the company has taken part in the "Pre-Conference Workshop on Privatization in Saudi Arabia", a forum where the entry programme for the private sector in the Saudi market has been analysed in detail. Similarly, Rafael Pérez-Feito, Aqualia's International Operations Manager, has taken part in the CEO's Forum (main panel on the 17th before more than 600 delegates of the highest level) and has moderated the table dedicated to PPP models in Latin America (with special emphasis on Mexico), during the "Big Ideas Roundtables".
