FCC Construcción was awarded the contract to build the first section of the future motorway from Vitoria to Eibar. The decision was taken by the board of directors of Vías de Álava, S.A., a publicly owned company dependent on the regional government of Álava. The contract has a budget of ?75.6 million.

This first 6.7-kilometre-long section will join Luko de Arlabán, in Álava, with the border between Álava and the province of Guipúzcoa.

The job includes two 620-metre-long parallel tunnels (one on each carriageway), three viaducts, four overpasses and five underpasses. It will be necessary to move some 2.5 million m3 of earth.
