Ciempozuelos City Council (Madrid) awards FCC Environment its street cleaning and urban solid waste collection services

Ciempozuelos City Council has awarded FCC Medio Ambiente (the Spanish brand for FCC Environment) its street cleaning and urban solid waste collection services for a period of eight years. The contract amounts to more than €8.5 million with two possible extensions of two years each.

To serve the cities’ 23,773 inhabitants and collect around 30 tons of waste per day, FCC will have a workforce of 17 workers and various material resources adapted to the specific needs of the city. Currently, the service is carried out by two rear loading lorries for black bag and packaging waste collection and a lorry with crane for the collection of underground containers. In addition, the service has a RAVO 540 sweeper, a pressure washer, a street washer and an open truck for the removal of furniture and bulky items.

Compressed natural gas (CNG) or electric vehicles will provide the service. As a new feature, from next year, the collection will move from rear to side loading.

This new contract will improve the frequency of collections, introduce CNG instead of conventional fuel engines, as well as an increase in the workforce.

FCC has been linked to this city since 2013, year when it was awarded the contract for management of local gardens and green areas.
