The FCC has closed the acquisition of Ekonor, s.A., a leader in industrial waste treatment and management.

The operation will enable FCC to assume an undisputed position of leadership in the sector - particularly in the treatment of industrial waste - with a very positive outlook for growth over the next several years.

The Ekonor group is present throughout the environmental management chain ranging from waste transport to recycling and treatment, storage, safe dumps, etc. Ekonor also has one of the largest waste management networks in Spain, with waste transfer centers located in Valencia, Madrid, Vitoria and Córdoba. It also has a complementary network of 14 commercial locations.

The Ekonor Group, which had a turnover last year of 3.7 billion pesetas and treated more than 150,000 tons of waste, employs more than 150 professionals. It has plans to add two final treatment facilities and three new waste transfer centers before the end of this year.

With this operation, FCC will obtain annual turnover of more than 10 billion pesetas per year in this activity and significant operating synergies thanks to the joint negotiating capacity of both companies and the geographic complementarities of the activities performed by the companies in Spain.
