The FCC Construcción subsidiaries SPA and Aqualia are the joint winners of a contact to design and build a tertiary treatment plant at the Baix Llobregat wastewater treatment plant in Barcelona valued at 18.2 million euros.

The Project consists of equipping the plant with the installations needed to reuse the treated water for irrigation and to channel the treated water back into the Río Llobregat, with a flow volume of 3.5 m3/s.

A system of 24 self-cleaning disc filters will be installed to retain particles larger than 25 micras. These filters suffer lower load losses and use less energy than sand filters.
