FCC to expand Gran Canaria airport in a project worth 124.6 million euro

FCC Construcción has won the tender to expand the Gran Canaria airport Terminal Building. The contract is worth 124.6 million euro, and construction will be completed in 36 months.

The project aims to expand the airport's passenger capacity, improve quality of service to travellers, expand retail space and give the Terminal Building a more modern and unique look.

The existing building will be expanded northward, southward and westward. The project will increase the number of baggage reclaim belts and the number of check-in desks, increase office space, create a new international arrivals and departures area, and expand the number of remote boarding gates to 40 to accommodate flights between the islands.

A new pier will be built along the east and north faces to enable the use of boarding ramps with E-type aircraft, such as the Jumbo Jet and the Airbus 340.

The contract also includes upgrading the roads entering and leaving the Terminal Building and the north entrance to the apron, expanding the existing parking area and developing the surroundings.
