FCC Awarded Urban Sanitation Contract in Vitoria

The Contracting Committee of the Vitoria Town Council has proposed FCC to provide the city's sanitation services for the next eight years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. The contract is valued at a total of 200 million euros.

This decision by the Contracting Committee, which must be ratified tomorrow by the town council, is based on the report prepared by the city's specialists, which gave FCC's offer a score of 87.83 points compared to the score of 76.59 points obtained by the current contract holder and the 69.62 points obtained by the third tenderer.

In order to provide trash collection and street clearing services, FCC will invest some 15 million euros, primarily in the purchase of 180 vehicles including garbage trucks and special street cleaning equipment.

All of the equipment will have GPS satellite navigators and on board computers installed, with the ability to send and receive data and communications. The engines of many of these vehicles will be powered by compressed natural gas, the most highly advance technology available on the market today for reducing contamination.

With this award, FCC will provide service to the three Basque capitals: Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria, along with 75 other municipalities in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country.
