FCC Industrial receives national prize at European Business Awards

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Mr. Simon Manley, thanked all of the companies for their efforts in achieving this accolade, and encouraged them to continue establishing and consolidating business and trade relations with the United Kingdom.

FCC Industrial was chosen by an international judging panel that comprises renowned members from the business world and the European education community. The judging panel assessed the environmental best practices implemented by the company on the different works it undertakes, as well as the contribution to protecting the environment in the areas in which it operates.

FCC Industrial is currently involved in the popular voting process of the video submitted to the Environmental and Corporate Sustainability category. The video will be exhibited and defended in front of the European Business Awards judging panel, in a bid to win the European prize for the most socially and environmentally responsible company.

We protect the environment

Since 2012, the company has operated and maintained two solar thermal power plants, both with a nominal power output of 49.9 megawatts per hour. The plants were designed and built by FCC Industrial and constitute a milestone that reflects the company's contribution to sustainability and energy efficiency. The two plants together supply over 30,000 families with power, which translates into a population of 70,000 residents.

At the Guzmán solar thermal plant, sustainable practices have been implemented, strengthening the environmental policy that FCC Industrial adheres to. Nesting areas for species like the black stork (Ciconia nigra) and the flamingo (Phoenicopterus) were created in the evaporation basin. Entrance and exit access points for birdlife were also made. All these measures have enabled local populations of black stork and flamingo to grow.

Lastly, FCC Industrial is also continuing to make progress in the areas of comprehensive building refurbishment, sustainability, energy efficiency and profitability. Testament to this, the company obtained one of the highest LEED scores in Spain and in Latin America for its Murcia Data Processing Centre.  Furthermore, in recent months the comprehensive refurbishment of the buildings located at Paseo Castellana 278-280 (Madrid) has been certified in the gold category.
