FCC Environment Austria renews and expands its co-operation with ARA, the government body responsible for recycling in Austria

The new contract, which will begin on 1 January, 2018 affects nearly all districts in Austria: approximately 93 in total. The districts fall under the eight existing regions and the new Schwechat region.

The total duration of the award is three years, plus a possible two year extension. The contract amounts to 3.5 million euros per year.

FCC will provide the service to 685,000 inhabitants in the regions of Baden, Amstetten, Hartberg/Fürstenfeld, Weiz, Wolfsberg, Klagenfurt/Land, St. Veit an der Glan, Waidhofen an der Ybbs and the new region of Schwechat. In total it will generate around 13,000 tons of recyclable material per year.

The services provided cover the collection of plastic and metal containers from homes and the supply of bags and containers (240 - 1,100 litres) for them.

The extensive experience of the Austrian subsidiary of FCC Environment in waste management, as well as the financial and environmental case it put forward, including the use of vehicles complying with the demanding EURO VI emissions regulations, played an important role in the awarding of this tender.

FCC Environment has worked with ARA in the field of packaging recycling  since 1993, when the separate collection of plastic and metal containers in Austria was introduced for the first time. This new award is reinforces ARA's satisfaction with the service provided by FCC.
