Juan Béjar appointed chairman of Oficemen

Juan Béjar, executive chairman of Cementos Portland Valderrivas, has been appointed chairman of the Spanish Cement Manufacturers' Association (Oficemen). Béjar replaces Dieter Kiefer, former chairman of Cementos Portland Valderrivas, who was appointed chairman of Oficemen in May 2011.

As chairman of Oficemen, Béjar will be responsible for leading and strengthening institutional relations with a view to communicating the cement industry's proposals and initiatives for addressing the crisis.


Juan Béjar holds a degree in law and business from Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE) in Madrid. He is currently chairman of Globalvia, a 50:50 joint venture between Bankia and FCC. Previously, he was chairman of Citigroup Infrastructure Management, the Citigroup subsidiary responsible for infrastructure asset management. He was also managing director of Ferrovial Infraestructuras, and executive vice-chairman and managing director of Cintra, overseeing the latter company's expansion and IPO.


Mr Béjar has extensive experience in the cement industry. He was head of planning and controller at Hisalba and later held the post of general manager of UMAR, the international division of Holderbank, currently Holcim.


The Management Board of Oficemen has also appointed four vice-chairmen: Jaime Ruiz de Haro, director and general manager of Cemex Spain; Vincent Lefebvre, CEO of Holcim Spain; Isidoro Miranda, general manager of Lafarge in Spain; and Eduardo Guedes, CEO of Corporación Noroeste, Cimpor Group.
