Ibiur Dam (Guipúzcoa)

The Ministry of the Environment's Directorate General of Hydraulic Works and Water Quality has awarded FCC a contract to build the Ibiur Dam (Guipúzcoa) to regulate the water of the Oria River. The investment of 26.5 million euros is provided for in the 2001-2008 National Hydrological Plan.

The dam will serve the communities of Ikaztegieta, Alegi, Altzo, Tolosa, Ibarra, Anoeta, Irura, Billabona, Sateasu, Zizurkil, Aduana and Anoain, with a combined estimated population of 60,000 inhabitants. It will also provide the Oria River with an ecological flow of water to improve quality during low water periods.

The dam will be 69 metres high and 232 metres long with a capacity of 7.5 cubic hectometres. It will regulate a flow of 250 litres per second for water supply and another 250 litres to improve water quality during the summer months.
