FCC wins the extension contract for section II of the Interamericana highway (Panama)

The FCC Consortium Corredor de las Playas II, formed by FCC Construccion and operator CICSA (infrastructure and construction division of the Carso Group), has won the tender for the expansion of the second section of the Pan-American Highway (Panama). The consortium obtained the highest technical score and presented the best economic proposal for the expansion to six lanes of the Inter-American highway between Santa Cruz and San Carlos, in the province of Panamá Oeste.

The expansion project of section II, has a budget of 349 million dollars. The work with identical purpose to the one awarded in section I, has a length of 21.8 kilometers and is included in the execution of the infrastructure the 13.7 kilometers corresponding to the variant of the Chame-Punta Barco area, in addition to the design of two exchangers to improve the connections between variants.

The FCC consortium and CICSA, with the development of this infrastructure, will make it possible to improve the transport of citizens to the interior regions of Panama, thus enabling an improvement in national tourism. To this, we must add a new organization of traffic flows for heavy loads as well as for users of neighboring towns, which will prove a reduction in driving time. Thanks to this allocated infrastructure will allow an access of 30,000 vehicles per hour.

FCC Construcción executes Section I of the Interamerican highway

On May 22nd, the Panama MOP signed the order to proceed to the Corredor de las Playas I (FCC Construccion and CICSA) Consortium, which implies the start of infrastructure execution. The extension project for section I has an execution period of more than 20 months and a budget of 543 million dollars. The purpose of the work is to improve the circulation of the 32.7 kilometers affected by the project, which includes design, construction and maintenance, thus making it possible to improve the interconnection between the completion of the Arraiján - La Chorrera highway and the new Pan American highway. Within this project is included the performance in two variants (Capira and Campana) which will adapt to the new dimensions of the road.

FCC Construccion presents extensive experience in the construction of international highways and motorways. In Panama, the infrastructure area of the FCC Group has executed sections 1 and 2 of the Via Brasil Corridor, as well as the rehabilitation and expansion of the Pan-American Highway in its section Arraiján-La Chorrera. Also, the New Necaxa highway in Mexico highlights the San Marcos viaduct, the second highest in the world.
