FCC Medio Ambiente (the Spanish brand for FCC Environment) participated yesterday in the debate on the Present and Future of Municipalism, organised by Cambio 16 in Madrid. The event, moderated by Gorka Landaburu, Chairman of the EIG Cambio 16 Group, was attended by Narciso de Foxá Alfaro, Mayor of Majadahonda; Catalina Rodriguez, Mayor of San Fernando de Henares; Mariola Vargas Fernández, Mayor of Villalba; Javier Rodríguez Palacios, Mayor of Alcalá de Henares; Ignacio García de Vinuesa, Mayor of Alcobendas, and David Pérez, Mayor of Alcorcón.

Antonio Rodríguez Gómez, Director of the Central Branch and Jesús Medina Peralta, Director of Region III (Spain), attended on behalf of FCC Medio Ambiente.

A series of subjects were addressed during the event, including the importance of municipal politics in the everyday lives of citizens and other hot topics affecting municipalism, such as the powers of municipalities and possible sources of finance, the importance of social services, support to persons in a situation of dependence and large families. In relation to public services, facing the controversy of public versus private management, it was proposed to choose the option that provides the best quality and efficacy for citizens at the lowest cost, always under strict municipal monitoring. The importance of the environment in municipal management was also emphasised, in addition to education on the environment for the coming generations, electric and sustainable mobility in general and the need to develop infrastructures to make these a reality.

FCC Medio Ambiente sees municipalities as the backbone of society. It has been collaborating with cities for over 100 years to develop more sustainable, effective and inclusive services, helping cities become smarter and transforming their economies into circular economies.
