Full-service water management

Aqualia, gestión integral del agua, S.A., is the umbrella company under which the FCC Group companies operating in this sector are grouped. Aqualia provides water services to over 26 million people in more than 1,100 municipalities. It also operates in Portugal, Algeria, Italy, Czech Republic, Mexico and China, among others.

The services backlog at the end of 2009 was 12.208 billion euro, 30% of which are related to activities outside Spain.

Operating under a unique approach to the water business, Aqualia is currently the only company that offers solutions for all areas of end-to-end water management. Its primary areas of action are:

  • Management of public water services.
  • Solutions for water use in industry.
  • Design and construction of water treatment plants.
  • Maintenance and operation of infrastructures for associations representing the joint interests of irrigators.
  • Water infrastructure concessions.
  • Management of sports facilities.

Water management

  • Cartaxo (Portugal). End-to-end water management for 35 years.
  • San Luis de Potosí (Mexico). Twenty-three year contract to pipe and purify drinking water via the El Realito aqueduct, including the design work and construction.
  • New Cairo (Egypt). Financing, design, construction and operation of a wastewater treatment plant in New Cairo, the first public-private partnership in the country.
  • Lepe (Huelva). End-to-end water management.
  • Bilbao (Vizcaya). Management of the Water Consortium networks.
  • Bollullos Par del Condado (Huelva). End-to-end water management.
  • Nerja (Málaga). End-to-end water management for 25 years.
  • Comillas (Cantabria). Management of public water services for 25 years.
  • Manilva (Málaga). Management of water supply and sewage system for 25 years.
  • Gáldar (Gran Canaria). Water supply and distribution for 25 years.
  • Elvas (Portugal). Management and operation of water supply and sanitation (30 years).
  • Acquisition of Aigües de Vallirana (Barcelona), the private company which manages water services for the majority of the town in the Baix Llobregat district.
  • Badajoz. Twenty-year extension of the contract for end-to-end water management.
  • Campo Maior (Portugal). Management of water distribution and sanitation services in the town (25 years).
  • El Vendrell (Tarragona). Creation of public-private partnership to manage water and sewage services in the town, including tourist areas on the coast such as San Salvador and Comarruga (25 years).
  • Water supply, sewage and drainage service in Torredembarra, Tarragona (25 years).
  • End-to-end water management in Linares, Jaén (25 years).
  • Campo Maior (Portugal). Comprehensive water management for a period of 25 years.
  • Santander. Management of the city water service for the next 25 years.
  • Frýdek -Místek, Karviná, Nový Jicin y Opova (República Checa). Water management.
  • Lloret de Mar. Management of the municipal water service for a 25-year period.
  • Lezíria del Tajo (Portugal). End-to-end water management for 40 years. The contract represents over 1.5 billion euro in revenues.
  • Caltanissetta (Italy). End-to-end water management for 30 years. The contract represents 1.5 billion euro in revenues.
  • Almería. Extension of end-to-end water management contract to 2032. This extension represents 700 million euro in revenues.
  • Langreo (Asturias). Contract to supply drinking water and maintain the sewers in a public-private partnership with the city government. The 25-year contract represents 127 million euro in revenues.
  • Algeciras (Cádiz). Twenty-five-year extension of the contract for end-to-end water management. The contract represents 450 million euro in revenues.
  • Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) (25 years). Twenty-five year contract for municipal water management. The contract represents 310.5 million euro in revenues.


Desalination

  • Adeje (Tenerife). Construction and management of the desalination plant in La Caleta until 2025.
  • Algeria. Twenty-five year contract for the construction and operation of desalination plants in Mostaganem and Cap Djinet, each with a capacity of 100,000 m3/day.
  • Sant Antoni de Portmany (Ibiza) (2 years).
  • Denia (Alicante) (30 years).
  • Ibiza (Balearic Islands) (2 years).
  • Blanes (Barcelona) (15 years).
  • Santa Eulalia (Ibiza) (15 years).

  • San Antonio (Ibiza). Expansion and operation of the wastewater treatment plant.

  • Consorci de la Costa Brava (Girona). Expansion of stake to 25% in the public-private partnership which has a 10-year contract to manage waste water in 26 municipalities on Spain's northeastern cost (Girona province).
  • Los Santos de Maimona (Badajoz). Management of sewage treatment plant (25 years).
  • Talavera la Real (Badajoz). Maintenance of sewage treatment plant (23 years).
  • Abrantes (Portugal). Management of waste water treatment plant (25 years).
  • Aragón region. Design, construction and operation of 13 waste water treatment plants in Teruel province.
  • Arahal (Seville). Maintenance of the waste water treatment plant (20 years).
  • Guadalajara. Two-year contract for maintenance of waste water treatment plant.
  • Medina del Campo (Valladolid). Ten-year contract for maintenance of waste water treatment plant.
