FCC to build a toll road in Romania for 161 million euro (#414)

Romania's Transport Ministry has awarded FCC the contract to build a new toll road section of Pan-European Corridor IV between the cities of Timisoara and Arad in western Romania. The project is worth a total of 161.2 million euro.

The project includes the construction of 32.3 km of toll road with a total width of 26 metres; it will have four 3.75-meter wide lanes, two 3-metre wide safety lanes and a 4-metre wide median.

The project also calls for the construction of 31 bridges, 13 culverts and a services area with operations and maintenance buildings and a police station. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months.

FCC wins Barcelona's largest-ever cleaning and waste management contract (#412)

Barcelona City Government has awarded FCC a 797.48 million euro contract for waste collection and street cleaning in the city centre.

The contract, which is the largest ever signed by Barcelona City Government, will run until 2017. FCC is a specialist and leading player in such activities as street cleaning and municipal solid waste collection; it has been serving Barcelona since 1915, where it has continuously won contracts by public tender since that year.

Cementos Portland Valderrivas and Fundaci�n Adecco sign an agreement for labour market integration of people with disabilities (#410)

Cementos Portland Valderrivas has signed a cooperation agreement with Fundaci�n Adecco to implement social and employment integration programmes for people with disabilities. The initial deal is for one year and may be extended by another three.

It was signed today by the CEO of Cementos Portland Valderrivas, Dieter Kiefer, and the Chairman of Fundaci�n Adecco, Emilio Zurutuza Reigosa.

The main goal of the agreement is to enable Cementos Portland Valderrivas to hire people with disabilities, through Fundaci�n Adecco. The foundation will provide training to the future employees to prepare them for the job, and will monitor their progress in the early months to ensure that they integrate smoothly.

Today, FCC, the General Union of Workers and Comisiones Obreras signed an Equality Plan, in force through 31 December 2012; it will be applied in all workplaces of the Environment division of FCC Services throughout Spain, as well as in all of this division's subsidiaries.

This Equality Plan was negotiated and signed with Spain's leading labour unions, under the Equality Law that was enacted last year; the plan consists of a "structured set of measures which will truly and effectively pave the way for the achievement overall, and in each individual company, of the objectives of equal treatment and opportunities for men and women, and eliminate any trace of gender discrimination".

FCC to upgrade toll road in Austria for 35 million euro (#408)

ALPINE, FCC's Austrian subsidiary, has been awarded a contract to resurface the A8 Innkreis motorway between Pichl and Meggenhofen. The contract is worth about 35 million euro.

The contract comprises the rehabilitation of the Innkreis motorway from kilometre 19.458 to 31.033. A six-centimetre layer will be cut off the existing surface and a new layer installed, using a total of 96,000 tons of asphalt. The motorway will be widened by three meters on each side and the lateral drain replaced;�� the edge beams on several of the existing bridges will be renewed and 13,600 metres of noise barriers will be installed.

FCC to manage the integrated waste management plant that it built in Valencia (#407)

�Revenue will total 217 million euro.

FCC built the Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Plant in Las Ca�adas, El Campello (Alicante), as part of the Valencia region Zone XV Waste Plan. Investment totalled 47.6 million euro.

The plant, which FCC will operate for 20 years, was inaugurated this morning; the contract includes management of municipal, garden and bulky waste, as well as the network of public recycling centres within the Plan's catchment area. This contract represents a backlog of 217 million euro.

The facility, which has been granted an Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA), has 34,000 sq metres of concrete surface area of and 20,000 sq metres of buildings. It will provide waste treatment, reuse and disposal services.

International revenues accounted for 41% of the total
The backlog rose by 11% to 36.248 billion euro
EBITDA declined by 5%

FCC's revenues in the first nine months of 2008 amounted to 10.857 billion euro, an increase of 6% on the same period of 2007.

FCC's internationalisation strategy continues to prove successful; international revenues now account for 41.2% of the total, compared with 36% last year and 13% two years ago. Continental Europe accounted for 71% of international business, the UK for 14% and the USA for 6%.

The degree of internationalisation of each of the business areas is as follows:

FCC lands 49 million euro municipal waste recycling management contract in the UK (#403)

FCC, through its UK subsidiary Waste Recycling Group (WRG), has been awarded a 7-year contract to manage household waste recycling plants (HWRCs) in the boroughs of Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham, in South Yorkshire. The contract, which is worth 49 million euro, involves managing 14 HWRCs across the three boroughs, which together receive around 86,000 tonnes of household waste a year.
