Company's Environmental Policy

FCC, aware of the importance to society of environmental preservation and the responsible use of available resources, FCC has undertaken to vitalise eight Group-wide commitments upon which its Environmental Policy is based:

. Continuous improvement.
. Control and oversight.
. Preventing climate change and pollution.
. Observation of the situation, and innovation.
. The life cycle of our products and services.
. The importance of full employee participation.

Environment


Milestones 2008


. approval of FCC Group's Environmental Policy
. 72% of FCC´s turnover has environmental certification.
. Creation of FCC Energía, the 6th largest producer of wind energy in Spain
. 32,797 hours of environmental training.
. Wider scope of environmental certification.
. Integration of eco-efficiency as a principal focus of the strategic plan.

Climate changes

Main lines of action by the FCC Group to reduce greenhouse gases:

. Gradual implementation of the strategy to manage business risks arising from climate change.
. Fine-tuning of processes to reduce emissions.
. Progress in the use of technologies that maximise energy efficiency.
. Use of alternative fuels and renewable energy.
. Implementation of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects.
. Capturing greenhouse gases.


Milestones 2008


. 12,807,671 GJ of energy produced from renewable sources.
. 4 clean development mechanisms registered and 3 in the pipeline.
. 1,206,600 tonnes of CO2 avoided
. 519 MW of installed capacity in renewable energies.
. 17% more biogas captured for energy cogeneration at medio ambiente in Spain.
. Alternative fuels represent 7,3% of fuels used by Cementos.


Water


The specific lines of action in water cycle management are as follows:


. The eco-efficiency of consumption processes
. Water reuse and zero discharges.
. Reduction of sewage treatment plant operating costs.
. Specific removal of emerging pollutants.
. Raising public awareness regarding the use of this scarce resource.
. Implementing new sources of water other than inland surface waters.
. Employee awareness in reducing water consumption.


Milestones 2008


. Cementos Portland Valderrivas met the target set for 2009 of recycling and re-using  35% of its water.
. 44% of surface areas are irrigated with water from alternative sources.
. Environmental training and awareness activities from employees were carried out in 99% of FCC Contrucción works.
. Aqualia was named best water Management company in the world by Global Water Intelligent.

Waste

The main lines of action in FCC's waste management business are as follows:

. Reduce the landfill fraction of waste managed by FCC by promoting recycling and reuse.
. Raise public awareness in order to improve separation of waste at source.
. Optimise management of waste produced by FCC itself.

Milestones 2008


. Over 9% of raw materials have been replaced by waste at FCC's US cement division.
. 46 of the waste generation has been reused, recycled or recovered.
. In construction works. In total 24,271,225 m3 of inert waste was re-used as resources in the production cycle.
. 33% of energy produced by FCC derives from waste
