FCC, through its UK subsidiary, Waste Recycling Group (WRG), has signed a contract with the Welsh municipality of Wrexham to manage its municipal waste for 25 years. The contract represents 540 million euro in revenues.
This Private Finance Initiative (PFI) will enable Wrexham to comply with UK regulations on composting and recycling. The company will process 87,000 tonnes of waste per year.
Wrexham is located in north-east Wales, close to the border with England. It has a population of 130,000.

This is WRG's second big contract since it was acquired last July by FCC as part of the latter's Strategic Plan. In October 2006, it signed a 25-year municipal waste management contract with the cities of Reading, Bracknell Forest and Wokingham which is expected to provide 893.1 million euro in revenues.
WRG is the leading waste management company in the United Kingdom. It manages 13 million tonnes of household, commercial and industrial waste each year and operates waste reception, recycling and disposal plants throughout the UK, including a network of transfer stations, recycling plants and landfills nationwide.
WRG has 58 landfill sites (capacity: 183 million cubic metres), 28 transfer stations, 2 incinerators (including the UK's largest), 14 composting plants, 70 household waste recycling centres, and other facilities for recycling and processing industrial waste.
