Torre Picasso supports Madrid 2016 Olympic bid

30-09-2009

  • A 1,600 m2 image of Madrid's "Olympic Hand" is displayed on the building's façade

The Madrid 2016 logo was projected last night on the main façade of Torre Picasso in support of the city's bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games. It will be projected again the night of 1 October.

The logo was projected on the façade that faces Paseo de la Castellana, occupying an area of approximately 1,600 m2 using two 25,000-lumen projectors located on a nearby building.

FCC, which owns Torre Picasso, is a preferred sponsor of the Madrid 2016 bid.

The shortlist for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games includes Madrid, Chicago, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro. The International Olympic Committee (ICO) will make its decision on Friday in Copenhagen.

Standing 157 metres tall, with 43 stories, Torre Picasso has been a landmark of modern Madrid since its inauguration in 1989.
