This new building has 35 floors, 181 me - ters high and 70,000 meters of floor space, concluding with its comple- tion, one of the most ambitious ur- ban developments in the city. The El Alto cement factory, located a few kilometres from Caleido, has been responsible for supplying the necessary material for the cons- truction of the building. This factory has been in operation since 1972, occupies an area of 611,500 m2, and is also in terms of production the largest cement plant in Spain. Since the seventies, it has been in charge of supplying cement to most of the works carried out in the Community of Madrid, some of which are of enormous relevance for the social, environmental and economic development of the city, From its cement factory in Morata de Tajuña (Madrid), Cementos Portland Valderrivas has supplied, jointly with Hormigones del Odón, the cement required to raise 35 floors to a height of 181 metres. such as the burying of the M-30, and others of enormous visual im - pact, such as Caleido. From a technical point of view, the construction of Caleido has requi- red the application of two types of high resistance cements. The type I cements with 52, 5 R resistances are the ones indicated for this type of work. With them, it has been possible to manufacture a total of 37,000 m3 of high performance concretes that have become the walls, slabs and main cores that rai- se the skyscraper. In order to take the concrete to the top it has been necessary to pump it, using a pipe in height of more than 300 meters that has raised the concrete to 181 meters high. Wi- thout a doubt, it is a unique building built with the best of materials and construction techniques. cement B U S I N E S S 21 B U S I N E S S
