We are FCC Nº26
Anna, when you decided to beco- me an industrial engineer, did you ever think you would work in the environmental field? Initially, when I decided to study Indus- trial Engineering, I wasn’t really sure what area I wanted to work in. It was du- ring my degree, and while studying the different specialisations, that my special interest in energy and the environment began to awaken. How long have you been working at FCC Environment? I have been working since 2017. My first contact with FCC Medio Ambiente was while I was doing my Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. I started doing an internship, and have been working here since then. What has been your professional career in the company? I started working at FCC Medio Am- biente in the Barcelona and Balearic Islands office, as a trainee in the waste collection part of a very ambitious and enriching project. Once I finished my in - ternship, I was offered the opportunity to stay with the company and manage the fountain service in Barcelona along with the maintenance of the city’s buil- dings. After two years, the opportunity arose to move to the Catalonia II De- legation and I accepted, as my home town is Lleida. I have been there for the last few years as head of the waste collection service. FCC has been a de- termining factor in my constant profes- sional growth and learning. What is the role of a Production Manager? Fundamentally have the ability to work, commitment and dedication to the com- pany. To manage the team by creating a collaborative environment, supervi- sing and providing the required support and back-up at all times. Fortunately, I am surrounded by highly qualified tech - nicians and very committed staff. Since you joined FCC, what has been your greatest challenge? As an FCC team, we face a big cha- llenge on a daily basis. This is not an easy job and not everyone realises how complicated it is to clean up and keep a city clean. The challenge is a daily one and it is everyone’s, mine and the whole team’s, everyone counts. Facing all the situations that occur on a daily basis, with the best professional and personal version of each one of us. Sincerely, my great challenge is pre- sented from now on, with the new po- sition and the responsibilities it entails. How do you organise yourself to coordinate the work of so many people and municipalities we ser- ve? Do you have to travel a lot? It is important to know how to delega- te and to trust in the experience and professionalism of the team. I am lucky to be surrounded by very committed people. This allows me to organise the agenda taking into account the most important aspects to be dealt with. In addition to giving me time to attend to the various unforeseen events that may occur, which are usually many, in or- der of priority. I try to be at least once a week in each area where we provide services. In the delegation we cover quite a large territory, although in terms of time and distance by car I can reach all the mu- nicipalities. What is the most important cha- llenge in your new role, and the most complex one? Personally, the most important cha- llenge I am facing right now, and at the same time the most complex one, is to give stability to the branch and to make it grow. At the moment, we are facing the renewal of the branch’s most im- portant contract, and at the same time, we have the opportunity to increase production by acquiring new contracts. We have to understand that rivalry and competition between companies is at its highest, and it will not be easy. But we face the challenge with dedication, strength, perseverance and a positive attitude. How is the incorporation of women in environmental services going? In my own experience, I have had no difficulty whatsoever being a woman in the company. In our delegation, and at company level as FCC Environment, equal opportunities are actively promo- ted in all jobs. This has made it easier for more and more women to occupy positions of responsibility. Although in the sector, and at a general level, there is still a long way to go.
