The main participants in the activities were children and young people with mental disabilities from the Apascovi Foundation, who were accompanied by volunteers and monitors from the Foundation.
 
Upon arrival at the factory, the group was welcomed with a breakfast organised by CPV volunteers. Next they attended an environmental workshop, and learned about the activities planned for the day, how quarries function, how to plant a tree and why it's important.
 
The group also visited zones that had already been reforested, and they planted and watered pine trees, and gave them names; this was followed by a picnic. The day came to an end with a ceremony at which participants received certificates for their environmental contribution.
 
Other attendees included Dieter Kiefer, Chairman of Cementos Portland Valderrivas, and other executives, employees and members of the Works Committee, who also participated in the tree planting activities, showing their support for an activity that is social, educational and recreational. This very enjoyable event was also an opportunity to learn new skills and abilities and transmit positive attitudes and values.
 
Dieter Kiefer commented: "This experience was a chance for me to confirm our employees' extraordinary social spirit and the fact that this type of activity brings us closer to the needs of local communities, especially to people who are at a disadvantage in terms of integration in society and the labour market."
 
The event is part of the social initiative implemented by Cementos Portland Valderrivas Group together with the Adecco Foundation to enhance social and labour integration of people with disabilities. The goal of the activity was twofold: to overcome social barriers and stereotypes about disabilities and to encourage respect for nature and the environment.
