FCC Acquires Cargo Handling from Aldeasa and Ogden

As part of strategy for growth in the services sector, FCC acquired the cargo handling business at the Madrid and Barcelona airports from Aldeasa and Ogden ( 70% and 30%). The cost of the operation was 1,506 million pesetas.

Every year, 48,000 tons of cargo are handled in Madrid and 35,000 tons in Barcelona. Turnover last year was in excess of 1,200 million pesetas. The number of employees is 178.

With this acquisition, FCC's goal is to reinforce its position in the handling business in Spain and to position itself in ideal conditions for undertaking its international expansion.

FCC provides passenger handling services at Spanish airports in Barcelona, Málaga, Las Palmas, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Santiago de Compostela, Bilbao, Valencia and Sevilla and cargo handling at the Miami airport (USA).

In the year 2000, 15,700,000 passengers and 65,000 aircraft pertaining to 120 airline companies were served, representing an 18% increase in this type of activity over the previous fiscal year.

At the Miami airport, the Group's affiliate, Silvarrey & Colon Cargo Services, handled a total of 52,000 metric tons of merchandise.
