Construction work of the Panama Canal

The Panama Canal Authority, the state agency in charge of operating and commercialising this infrastructure, has awarded Coporación M&S, Internacional, an FCC subsidiary that operates in Central America, a contract to construction work of the Panama Canal valued at 13 million euros.

The object of the project is to improve the visibility of maritime traffic. To do so, it will be necessary to move 4.75 million cubic metres of terrain from the shore near Hodge, one of the narrowest spots on the canal, located between the Centenary Bridge and Miraflores Lock five kilometres from Panama City.

The work will take 32 months to complete and will involve a number of controlled explosions, which adds to the difficulty of the project, since it must be done without interrupting the passages of vessels through the canal.
