Following a number of comments concerning FCC in relation to the municipal solid waste collection and street cleaning contract for the city of Barcelona, and in light of the findings of the enquiry presented to the plenary session of the Municipal Government today, FCC issues the following statement:

• FCC is examining the findings relating to the street cleaning service in detail. Notwithstanding the above, in the event of any error in handling any of the information provided to the Municipal Government, the report does not suggest any fraudulent intent by either FCC or its employees.

• With regard to the collection of packaging and bulky items, this has always been conducted with the aim of providing the best possible service to the residents of Barcelona and to the Municipal Government. As the report finds, and as FCC has repeatedly stated, there has been no profit for the company nor damage to the Municipal Government.

• In fact, on its own initiative, FCC has already taken measures beyond those required in the contract to tighten controls over the provision of these services. Among other measures, FCC has installed GPS.

• FCC will cooperate fully with the Municipal Government to clarify the issues in order to provide the best possible service to the city of Barcelona, as it has done since the contract commenced.

• FCC reiterates its unwavering commitment to the efficient and sustainable management of municipal waste.
