Suffolk County Council awards the contract for several recycling centres to FCC Environment

After a rigorous and competitive procurement process, Suffolk County Council announced that leading resource and waste management business FCC Environment, has been awarded the new contract for the operation of its countywide network of 11 Recycling Centres, serving nearly 750,000 inhabitants, for a period of eight years, with an order book value of over 30 million euro.

“This is a high-profile service with over 1.5 million users each year across the 11 sites” said Paul West, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Waste. “We are delighted to once again be working with FCC Environment, who have demonstrated they have the experience and ambition to deliver against our targets and work in partnership with us to provide an excellent service for residents throughout the county.”

This new contract will place greater emphasis on re-use by opening new second re-use shops at Bury St Edmunds. Innovative technology will be used at all locations to improve user experience; a program will be created to minimize disruptions in service delivery and costs will be reduced through a highly competitive negotiated procurement process. Steve Longdon, Regional Director of FCC Environment, said of the contract award, "we are very excited to continue our relationship with Suffolk County Council and we look forward to delivering a wider re-use offering”.

FCC Environment operates over 100 Household Recycling Centres in the UK, recycling 1.6 million tonnes of waste each year.
