FCC Environment presents its industrial electric mobility platform in the 14th National Congress of the Environment

FCC Medio Ambiente (the Spanish brand for FCC Environment) participated in the 14th National Congress of the Environment, CONAMA 2018, held at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos of Madrid, from 26th to 29th of November.

During the event held on the 28th November a number of projects that have been partially funded by FEDER were presented, whose objectives are related to sustainability, the environment and the circular economy. As part of this framework, Antonio Bravo, Head of the Department of Machinery of FCC Medio Ambiente, presented the first FCC's affordable industrial electric mobility platform, designed for municipal services and developed as the result of the CIEN VEMTESU Project (Spanish acronym that stands for "High-Efficiency, Electric-Traction, Vehicular, Modular and Self-Supporting Platforms for Urban Services ").

The project, jointly funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) as part of the 2014-2020 smart growth operational programme and within the framework of the CIEN programme of the CDTI (Centre for Industrial Technological Development) has been developed over the past four years in a Joint Venture led by FCC, with the participation of another four benchmark companies of the Spanish market and two external collaborators, all of which are very relevant in the automotive industry and in scientific-technical and electrical-electronic technology areas.

The platform is characterised for being affordable for town and city councils and for its versatility, since it can be adapted to any functional configuration and any power and energy requirements of the heady-duty vehicles used to deliver the urban services. In addition, it represents a breakthrough in automotive energy efficiency. The first vehicle developed with this platform will be equipped with side-loading bodywork for waste collection. The technology is Plug-in, 100% electric, which means that the lorry drives out of the operations base with the batteries fully charged and completes the service in a fully electric mode, therefore, operating as a ZEV vehicle (Zero-Emissions Vehicle). If the operating time needs to be extended, the unit features a compressed natural gas (CNG) auxiliary motor/ generator, which allows the batteries to be charged quickly while the lorry travels to the unloading site. This vehicle representing FCC's electric mobility technology is a milestone regarding to energy efficiency, since it reduces the energy consumed by over 50% when compared to conventional vehicles, and also drastically reduces emissions and CO2.

About CONAMA
