FCC Environment participates in the 2019 Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUM) Congress (Bilbao)

FCC Medio Ambiente, the Spanish brand for FCC Environment, has participated in the first edition of the Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUM) congress, an event aimed at raising the awareness on the future of mobility and its impact in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the cities of the 21st century, held at Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao on 20th and 21st February and where almost 1.400 have attended the event.

More than 77 speakers discussed the strategic aspects that are needed to build and consolidate sustainable urban mobility systems, focusing on three key topics: public policies, technology and innovation and development opportunities.

FCC's stand was designed to showcase the first versatile and affordable e-mobility industrial modular platform for urban service vehicles developed by the company, first application is a fully electric, Zero Emission (ZEV), plug-in, self-recharging and fully recyclable vehicle. The vehicle features a new modular chassis with a permanent electric traction and an ultra-low cab moved forward and offering a panoramic view to improve ergonomics and facilitate the delivery of the services, with the bodywork controls integrated in the chassis. The vehicle's is designed with an electric traction motor, high-power batteries and a unified electronic system. As a result, it can be used to deliver the same services as those of a conventional waste collection vehicle, with the same performance features but reducing the energy consumed by over 50% and also drastically reducing emissions and CO2. Highlights of the event included the visit of Abel Caballero, President of the FEMP and Mayor of Vigo, to FCC Medio Ambiente's stand, where he received information about the new e-mobility platform.

Eladio Orive, Director of FCC’s Bizkaia Office, presented the new platform to the councillors of the City Council of Bilbao, among whom was Alfonso Gil, Coordinator of Mobility, Environmental, Housing and Development Policies. The vehicle will be showcased from 21 to 23 February at the terrace of the Maritime Museum.

The congress was also the place where the Bilbao Statement was signed, an international document with the commitments shared by local governments, international institutions, privately-run companies of different sectors (automotive, transport, energy, technology and start-ups) and academic and knowledge-sharing centres, with the aim of implementing sustainable urban mobility models in our cities. For the first time in history, public and private actors have shown their commitment to take on the actions aimed at improving sustainable urban mobility, in line with the new urban agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda, by signing this crucial document, which was also signed by FCC Medio Ambiente.
