Carmena congratulated the Civil Engineers’ Association for starting this original initiative and for its approach to the public. She added that cities need the management of services, water and infrastructure improvements to be connected.

All the attendees were welcomed by the Dean of the Civil Engineers’ Association in Madrid, Miguel Ángel Carrillo Suárez. This was followed by speeches from the representatives of the companies collaborating in this event. A round table also took place on the current situation of the sector and the main challenges facing Spanish construction companies, in which managers from the companies participating in the event took part.

The round table covered topics such as the changes in the world of Spanish civil engineering, budgets, investment policies and infrastructure conservation in Spain and the challenges to engineering and the profession – innovation, sustainability, climate change and the training of engineers compared to the needs of companies. Engineering projects currently being undertaken by Spanish companies around the world were also discussed. Various personnel from FCC took part in the event, including Miguel Jurado.

Engineering and innovation in the streets of Madrid

From 22 to 28 May, the public can enjoy a sample of physical displays, workshops, demonstrations, visits, seminars and conferences for a closer look at the professional activity of Civil Engineers.

In addition, various elements of engineering and innovation with a great impact and interest to the public will be placed in key areas of the city. These iconic works will be on show during these days with a group of volunteers to explain the function of each to the visitors.

This year, FCC has provided the head of the “La Adelantada” tunnel boring machine in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium plaza and one of its GNC hybrid plug-in collector/compactor vehicles, rear-loading and with a capacity of 27 m3, which will be installed in the Plaza de Ruben Darío during Engineering Week.

This exhibition is designed to show that behind the construction of large bridges, impressive structures, major roads, city landscaping, dams and great water works are the Civil Engineers who improve the public’s quality of life with their knowledge and know-how.
