History

More than a century building cities

The company initially operated in Catalonia, where it developed its expertise in the construction sector. When it was hired in 1911 to provide sewer cleaning and maintenance services in Barcelona the history of the company changed. At this point FCC became a pioneer in diversification.

The parent company, FCC Group, was born in 1992 from the merger of two companies: Construcciones y Contratas (1944) and Fomento de Obras y Construcciones (1900). Since then, we have worked to become a company that delivers quality services to citizens every day.

1991 - 1993

1991

  • The Las Fuentes bridge over the Ebro River, built by the Company as part of the construction of a second beltway around Zaragoza, received the Construmat'91 award in the category of best civil engineering work of the year.

1992

  • Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. merges with Fomento de Obras y Construcciones, S.A. (Focsa), creating the company known as Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. (FCC). The company created by the merger is the leading company in its sector in terms of both size and profitability.
  • The first high speed train linking Madrid and Sevilla is inaugurated in Spain. Our Company play san important role in this Project with the construction of the two terminals at either end of the line (Madrid-Atocha and Sevilla-Santa Justa), in addition to 100 km of track.
  • The floating dock "Mar del Teide", owned by the Company and used to build caissons of different sizes and drafts, is up and running. It will be used for construction work at the ports of Rosario (Fuerteventura), La Gomera, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Villagarcía de Arosa (Pontevedra), Almería, Tarragona, Palma de Mallorca and Igoumenitsa (Greece).

1993

  • The Company introduces the first ecological garbage trucks in Madrid which are fueled by liquefied gas to considerable reduce gas emissions and noise.
